I didn't get a phone call from IslandGrl this weekend but that doesn't surprise me. I hope she doesn't make it a habit to call me on Friday nights just to tell me that she is NOT going to see me and most likely will NOT be calling me. I don't see the point in doing that even once.
I thought about her a lot this weekend though. Maybe that was the point.
Anyway, other than thinking about IslandGrl a lot this weekend I did have some fun.
Saturday morning I went shopping! I know, I'm a guy and I shouldn't enjoy shopping all that much but I do. I went down to Vally Fair mall down in San Jose. It's a pretty big mall and has a lot of great stores. My main reason for shopping was Momma's birthday party later that night.
I got there right as the mall was opening so I decided to take a slow walk around the entire mall and make a few stops at the shops that were open early. I stopped by Sunglasses Hut because I have a coupon for $20 off any purchase. I didn't find anything I liked though. Glasses just don't really look good on my head for some reason. I'll keep looking though. I also stopped by Macy's. I like buying my nice clothes at Macy's and they were having a sale. Some stuff was marked off as much as 65%! I didn't really find anything though.
After making my trip around the mall I went to Pottery Barn to get Momma her gift. I had my eye on a nice aluminum wine rack because Momma likes to drink wine. I also looked at a nice dinnerware set but I didn't really know if she needed that so I got the wine rack instead.
After shopping I went back to Fremont and got some lunch. I brought lunch home with me and then relaxed for a few hours before going to the gym. There is no one at the gym on Saturdays. The place was pretty empty. I think there were about 5 other people in the whole place. The only one I took notice of was this smokin' hot chick in a red sports bra and workout pants. She walked over and started working out right in front of me while I was on the elliptical machine. Then when I was done with that and started lifting weights on the machines she went over and got on the treadmill right by me. It was distracting but in a good way.
After my workout I had just enough time to get home, shower, and then drive over to Momma's surprise 50th birthday party. Momma is the real life mother of two of my good friends and she is the "adopted" mother to a whole bunch of other great people. We really do have one big extended second family with a lot of love for each other.
Her children and husband rented out a room at Centennial Hall in Hayward for the occasion. I got there early like I always do. For a while it seemed like it was just going to be me and her children there to yell "SURPRISE" when Momma was brought there by Pops. A bunch of people were able to sneak in just before Momma got there so things worked out great. We all had a great time. There was great food and great music throughout the night. Momma was crying almost the whole night. She really startd bawling when we each got up and told her how much she means to us and how she has affected our lives.
I had to leave early though because The Funk was also having a party that night. He was throwing a party to celebrate the 10 year anniversary for his business. It was at our old thursday night hangout and he was going to be performing with his new band.
I made a quick pit stop at my house before going there because I had to change my clothes and take a potty break. When I got there the place was already packed. I grabbed a quick bite to eat just to be polite since I was already full from Momma's birthday party.
It was cool watching The Funk perform in a band. He plays guitar and sings. They definitely need more practice and someone who knows how to set up the sound board correctly but they aren't exactly trying to get a record deal or anything. They just play for fun in one of the guy's garage.
On Sunday I cleaned my room, took a shower, and then headed to Menlo Park to watch Maria Full of Grace. The power was out at the theater though so they had to cancel all shows for the day. Luckily there was enough time for me to head over to The Aquarius Theater in Palo Alto to catch Before Sunset.
This was a great film! It's a sequel to Before Sunrise with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. It takes place nine years after they have a chance encounter and spend a magical night together. They had promised to meet each other six months later but in fact did not. Now Ethan's character has written a book about that night and he is promoting it in Paris when he meets Julie's character again. They spend Ethan's remaining time in Paris catching up on old times before he has to catch a flight back to New York.
The film is basically an hour and a half long conversation between the two of them. You would think that it would make for a boring film but it was amazing. I really loved this film. It really showed how one encounter with someone can have such an effect on the rest of your life. My heart ached for both of them. I'm going to buy this film when it comes out on DVD.
After the film I walked around University Ave because they were having some sort of art festival. I found the people to be very rude and ill mannered so I decided to go home.
On the way home I stopped by Rasputin Records to browse around. I do this a lot on weekends because they have so much music there. I like going to the used CD area and just flip through them all to see if anything catches my eye. I was looking to pick up some more of my favorite 80's music but I didn't find anything great. I did find a CD by Nelly Furtado that I didn't know she made.
I also picked up a CD that inspired the title of this entry, Seksu Roba. It's this electro-pop Japanese group. I've listened to it a few times already and it is well worth the $4.95 that I spent on it. The name would translate to Sex Donkey or Donkey Sex, i'm not that great at Japanese so I don't know which for sure. The beats are cool and the vocals are sexy. I'll probably post a song or two for everyone to listen to soon.
Anyway, I have to get to work now.
