OK, so my uncle and Tata arrived on Sunday night but they were too tired for dinner so I just kicked it at home.
I met them Monday morning for breakfast at a Denny's on El Camino Real. I paid for breakfast and Tata got upset. He felt that he should be the one paying. I was all like, "you guys are my guests, i'm paying."
So then we drove to Stanford were Tata a couple of pre-op appointments. We spoke to two doctors at the first appointment and they send Tata down for some x-rays. After the x-rays we had to go back up to see one of the first two doctors. He thought that maybe the operation should be delayed until they get another MRI. The reason being that it had been a while from the first MRI and surgery date and since then Tata has been to the hospital a few times. Tata insisted that he have this surgery now. There was no way he was going to delay it any further.
So then we were sent to some other building where Tata had to meet with the anesthisiologist(sp?). The dude had some issues with the fact that the surgen wanted to perform the operation with just a local anesthetic rather than a general anesthetic. So he sent Tata back out to the waiting room and we waited. Then they called him back for some blood work but the knock-out doc wasn't ready for him so they sent him back out to the waiting room. Then they called him back to see the knock-out doc and he did some stuff and we were able to leave. We spent about 5 hours at Stanford waiting and going from one building to another.
Tata was very tired so we drove him back to the hotel room. On the way back he decided he was hungry so we stopped at Chili's and had some grub.
We dropped Tata off and my uncle and I went back to my pad. My uncle was amazed at the house I live in. He thought that with the price of renting that I would be living in a small shack or a cramp studio apartment. He didn't even think that homes in the bay area had back yards as big as ours. My house is fat yo!
We kicked it there for a bit and watched Purple Rain on TV. Afterwards we decided to go see another movie. We saw The Recruit with Al Pacino. I guess it was a good movie if you just want to turn off your brain and see some action. Although the movie wasn't really "action packed."
So afterwards we went to Paulo's Lounge, the bar owned by my friend DJ Mike. Tessie, Mike, and Lucille were there and they were very surprised to see me walk into the bar on a Monday. They know that I don't make it a habit to go out on a work night. Luckily I took Monday and Tuesday off to be with Tata. So we had a few Coors Lights. They had a new bartender. She was super cute and very chatty. She said she would like to see me again but since I don't go out on Monday nights, and thats the only night she works at the bar, I don't think I will be seeing her again.
I drove my uncle back to the hotel in Redwood City and went home to sleep.
I woke up the next morning and met my uncle at Stacks in Menlo Park. They gots some crazy good breakast there. I had the eggs benedict and it was super yummy. My grandfather wasn't able to join us for breakfast because he had to be at the hospital at 5:30am. My uncle said that he woke him up at 4am ready to go. When they got to the hospital about 4:45am there was no one there so they had to wait for about an hour.
After breakfast we went to the waiting area at the hospital. We were there for what seemed like forever. I read The Chronical and a few other magazines. My uncle fell asleep since he had been awaken so early.
About 4 hours later they wheeled Tata out and we followed him to his room. The doctor said that things were worse than he thought but they didn't have any trouble fixing him up. He even said that Tata would probably be able to go home that afternoon. Tats said he felt great except for where they had made the incisions. We decided to keep him there overnight just to make sure everything was ok. We stayed with him for a while and ordered his lunch and dinner tray. We decided to leave because he wasn't going to go to sleep with us there.
I went home and ate some lunch, did laundry, and watched some movies. I went over to The Lab and watched The Ring on DVD. Don't ask me how I got this movie on DVD. It would have been a better movie if they titled it The Cock Ring. It could have been about this haunted porno tape. When you watch it a weiner pokes you in the eye in 7 days, causing you to go blind.
After the movie I went back to the hospital to check on Tata and meet up with my uncle. Tata was asleep so we left him alone for about an hour. They woke him up to give him his dinner so we went in to see him. It was obvious that he was doing much better. He was demanding coffee, extra salt on his food, and packets of sugar. None of which he is allowed to have because of his various ailments.
We kicked it with Tata for a while and then we left to let him go back to sleep. My uncle and I went to have dinner and a beer at Gordon Beirsch on Emmerson. The food there was good. A little expensive, but good. Afterwards I went home and my uncle went back to his room.
My uncle was going to pick up Tata this morning, take him to get some breakfast at Stacks, and then drive him back home. The should actually be home by now. I'll probably go back to Turlock to see how he is doing in about two weeks or so.
