This is really what I would consider the last "Spring Break" entry since now i'm really just at home doing household things and various other daily chores.
I woke up this morning and finished the book that I had been reading throughout my vacation, Hit List by Lawrence Block. It's about a hit man who realized that there is someone trying to kill him. It was a good read. This is the second book i've read this year. I think i'm going to do more reading.
My dad got home from work and he wanted to go out for breakfast. We all got ready and headed down to Latif's on Golden State Boulevard. My parents come here all the time. It's always referred to as "the old people's diner." It is where a lot of Turlock's senior citizens go to eat, especially breakfast.
My parent's had their usual items. They didn't even need a menu. I looked at it and of course my dad couldn't help himself and had to tell me what I was going to eat. My mom hushed him but he didn't listen. I asked him to please let me at least read the menu and if he had any suggestions I would hear him out. That wasn't good enough for him, he decided I was going to have an omelet. When the waitress came I ordered chicken fried steak and eggs.
As usual my dad wanted to have the most inappropriate conversations during breakfast. He demanded to know about my finances. He told me where I should put my money and where he has his money invested. He wanted me to tell him what my brother was up to, even though he knows I speak to him less than anyone else. I asked my dad about that "check engine" light and wanted to know if he was sure it hadn't come on while he was driving the Corvette. He didn't want to talk anymore. I guess that means that i'll have to hold off on his investment advice for a while while I spend every last penny fixing my Vette.
We got back home and I just watched TV while my dad went to sleep. My mom left to run errands. There wasn't much on TV really. I guess i'm just out of the daytime TV loop. There used to be plenty on when I was in college.
I decided to head over to the new Borders bookstore in Turlock. It's not nearly as busy as any of the Border's stores that I have been to in the Bay Area. I made a quick walk around the whole place to get my bearings. It seemed to be laid out pretty much like most of the other Border's I have been to. I started off in the Mystery/Crime section. I saw some books by a guy named Ellory that interested me. They seem to be fictional crime books based on real events. I might buy some of his stuff later. I was looking for something that might be quirky, not your usual mystery subject matter. I didn't really find anything.
I wandered over to the section simply titled Literature. It seemed like this was filled with all of the classic literary pieces. I saw a few things that looked interesting but decided to just keep them in mind while I continued browsing. I did some more wandering around.
I ended up in the religion section. Nothing there was even close to interesting. I thought I might find something along the lines of a factual commentary on the history of the biblical stories. The Philosophy section was nearby. I found this a much more interesting collection. I read a lot of philosophy books in college. I read the works of the most influential philosophers and commentaries about those philosophers.
I was particularly interested in finding some of Nietzsche's work. I really loved reading Nietzsche in college and I wanted to see if they had much of his work. They actually had a lot more than they thought. I picked up one book after another and knew I couldn't buy them all. Trying to narrow it down to just one or two was going to be tough. They had two collections that caught my eye. The first was The Basic Writing of Nietzsche that has about 4 of his books along with some various excerpts from some of his other writings. Then there was Nietzsche, which is another collection type book by Walter Kaufman. I remember checking this book out of the university library all the time. I read it multiple times. It also had 4 books with various excerpts. I decided to go for the first collection since I haven't read that one yet. After I'm done I will buy the Walter Kaufman collection.
While browsing the Nietzsche work I caught a glimpse of a female out of the corner of my eye. She was wearing a bright orange-ish shirt. She had nice dark skin, brown hair with blonde streaks in it. She had a very nice curvy body. When I caught a look at her face she seemed very familiar. I kept thinking that I had seem her a lot in the bay area, but I couldn't pin it down. I took every opportunity that I got to get a good long look at her. Of course I didn't go up to her and talk to her. She was busy looking at some books and I just didn't want to be a pest. I was hoping that we would walk out at the same time so I could casually say "hi" but that didn't happen.
Now i'm back at my parent's house with not much to do. I have no internet access which really sucks. I don't know where I could go in Turlock to go fishing for an open wireless network. blah.
I'll probably do my laundry tonight. Tomorrow I'll leave for Fremont after the rush hour has passed. I have to get a smog check on the Camry. I'll probably do some other household things or maybe go to the city for lunch or something. Thursday it is supposed to rain so I really have to get things done on Wednesday.
