So Thursday night The Funk called me up and asked me if I would go to Reno with him and K. No one else was going with them and I know that he doesn't gamble like K so he would be really bored. I told him that I would call in sick and go with them for the weekend.
We left on Friday afternoon and got to Reno Friday night. The first thing that I noticed was that my phone said "Invalid Network". I knew that my cell phone wouldn't work in Reno but I didn't really care much. I wasn't going to carry around my phone anyway.
So we got went up to the room that was comp'ed to K to put our stuff away. It was a kick ass suite. It had a living room, a bedroom with two beds, a huge bathroom with a stand up glass shower and a jaccuzzi with a TV in the wall, It had his and hers counters and a separate potty room. It also had two big screen tv's, one in the living room one in the bedroom, a DVD player, and a stereo system.
K went down to the high roller's blackjack room while The Funk and I went to the liquor store. We could get free liquor from the casino but The Funk needed Bacardi Limon for his low carb drink and the casino doesn't carry that brand of rum. After we picked up the Bacardi we went looking for a huge glass for him to pour it in.
We ended up stopping at The Nugget to grab one of the Margaritas that they sell in giant sports drink type cups. We stayed there for a bit while The Funk drank the contents of the cup. This place is old and nasty. They sell like 50 cent oyster shooters and you could smell rotten oysters mixing with all the alcohol and smoke that was drifing around the room. It was nasty nasty nasty.
From there we went up to the room so The Funk could mix his Bacardi with Diet Coke in the cup. We headed back downstairs and actually did some gambling. I totally lost like $60 right away and was pissed off. After The Funk lost some money we went over to the high roller area to see how K was doing. It was too early to tell how her luck was.
We headed back upstairs because one of the dudes at the table had agreed to try the drink that The Funk couldn't keep quiet about someday. So The Funk decided to mix him up one and bring it back down to him. I chose to stay in the room and watched TV before falling asleep. The Funk called me a few times to tell me that he had won a few hundred dollars playing the slot machines.
The next morning I woke up and watched TV for a few hours while The Funk slept. He got up around 10 or so after only a few hours sleep. He said he wanted to go to the fitness club in the hotel so I got ready and we headed down.
I did a quick 30 minute workout and felt great. I was aching all over but I loved it. I love that burning feeling you get in your muscles when you hit the weights hard. I headed over to the blackjack tables to get K and bring her back up to the room while The Funk went to sauna and then soak in the theraputic tub they have.
K had only come back to the room for a short while the night before and didn't eat or sleep. When we got up to the room she just ate some kimchee and rice that she had brought with her. The Funk came up after about half hour or so and I took a shower.
K went back down to the blackjack table while we went down to the buffet for brunch. They had a pretty good spread and even gave us champagne. I am used to having a champagne brunch on Sundays rather than Saturday so it was kind of weird.
The rest of the day was pretty much spent wandering around. We hit up a lot of pawn shops and I tried to find something for Ashley's birthday. There really wasn't anything that was hilarious enough at any of the pawn shops we hit up. I don't think she has much need for stolen stereo equipment or guns.
That night we had dinner at a nice Italian restaurant in the hotel. Of course our meal was comped by the casino but we didn't go crazy really. We did eat too much food though. I had a salad of fresh mozarella, tomato, and basil with olive oil. We also had a plate of a dozen fresh oysters, lobster, mussels, squid, and king crab as an appetizer. For my main course I had prosciutto wrapped scallops on top of this linguini in a very yellow sauce. I ate the scallops but didn't touch the linguini.
This kind of stuff is the best part of going to Reno with The Funk. The pit bosses give us anything just to keep us away from K while she is gambling. They don't want us to tell her to leave the table if she is losing.
We also got free tickets to see Showgirls. This was like a revue of all showgirls past and present. The one sucky part was that there were menz in the show as well. Their names were: Ray J, Hi-C, and Doc T. How corny can you get. Of course these white guys had goatees and where wearing bandanas on their heads so you know they were sexy.
Anyway, we watched the boobees bounce around on stage and then went out to the casino. The Funk had lost all the money that he won the night before and then some and he wanted to try to win it back. I really didn't want to gamble any more but I lost another $40 just so I didn't have to stand around and do nothing.
I hit the sack early, like around 1 or 2am. K was escorted back to the room by security around 8am on Sunday. I know because it woke me up. I guess she was falling asleep at the table or something and they didn't think it was safe with the amount of money she had in front of her.
So she went to sleep and the Funk and I went out and had breakfast (comped of course). We went back to the room after eating and K was taking a shower and then headed back down to the blackjack table. She is like a freaking gambling machine. She doesn't need sleep or food when she is near a casino.
I took a shower and then The Funk and I wandered around for a bit before heading back to the room. I was ready to just go home but that wasn't going to happen any time soon since K was back at the tables. We watched TV in the room and I put together this jigsaw puzzle on my iBook. I am so glad I brought it with me. Unfortunately I couldn't tap into an open wireless access point and get on the internet. I found one but the signal was so weak that I didn't bother.
Around 5pm we headed downstairs to bother K and tell her that it was time to go home. It really was time to go home because I had laundry to do and it would be at least 3 hours on the highway to get home. She refused to go and gave The Funk $100 to go gamble with. The Funk gave me some of the money and I dropped it in a slot machine as fast as I could so we could go. We came back within minutes and the pit boss sent us away. We got a comp to eat more food even though we weren't hungry.
We still ate a mountain of dungeness crab. I mean we weren't going to let the comp go to waste. We had to make the most of it. We ate for about an hour then came back and told K that it was time to go. She still didn't want to go and it took a lot of arguing to get her to finally walk away from the table.
I got home way to late to get any laundry done. I have enough clean clothes to last until Wednesday but then I'll have to start turning my underwear inside out. ewwwwwwwwww!
When I got home I unpacked my things and turned on my phone. That is when I saw the shitload of attempted calls. I started looking through them and they were all from my parents. I guess they called on Saturday then again on Sunday and when I didn't call them back they went crazy. I called the house and left them a message telling them where I had been and that I had no cell service. Then I thought I should call my mom's cell phone in case they were trying to call me because something serious had happened and not just because they are pycho and can't deal with a 28 year old man going to Reno for a day and not answering his phone.
Boy was I wrong. My mom answered the phone in a frenzy demanding to know where I was and where I had been. I told her to calm down and asked her if something had happened. She said that yes something was wrong, they had tried to call me and I wasn't returning their calls. SHEESH. You would think that they hadn't heard from me in a week or something.
Then she asked me for my address and I told her to chill out and get any thoughts about coming over to my place out of her head. She said she was already in Fremont and she knew she was close to the house but didn't remember exactly what address the house was at. I told her to turn around and go home NOW! She handed the phone to my dad who started naming the street they were on and wanted to know how to get to my house from there.
They were actually on my street but had passed up my house and were now almost back on the main road that would take them to the freeway. I told my dad that he could just keep on driving the way he was going and get right on the freeway and go home. I explained to him that I was in Reno for the weekend and my phone didn't work so I turned it off. He still wanted me to give him my address but I refused and told him I was going to sleep. If they wanted to drive around Fremont all night long it was up to them but I needed my rest and wasn't about to host two loony freaks who can't handle not getting a returned call. I knew if I let them come over it would be hours worth of lecture about going off to Reno without telling them first and not calling to check in every few hours. Not a chance in hell was I going to put up with that.
I know everyone thinks that their parents are the worst but mine certainly would be in the running for crazy parents of the year with their performance last night. Can you imagine getting in a car at night and driving hours to a destination that you aren't even clear of just because your grown son didn't return your call fast enough? Freaks I tell you!
One thing that I do feel badly about is missing the Midnight Madness screening of Clockwork Orange. Not only did I miss watching that movie on the big screen but I also potentially missed seeing my little sister ezi out in a public space. I was going to pull her hair and chase her around the parking lot, unless REVENGE OF THE NERD attacked me or something. I don't know if she went or not but I hope she didn't or I'm going to be sad that I missed seeing her.
