Sunday was going to be my kick back day. The only scheduled events were a movie, a haircut, and dinner with mokee and the family.
I ended up having lunch with a friend in Palo Alto at Pizza My Heart. Mmmmmm greasy pepperoni pizza! I wasn't hung over at all from the night before, I guess the yaking worked. It was a very last minute meeting for a quick chat session and catching up. So after our slices I parted ways with my friend Mea. She doesn't really like independent films and I was going to see a foreign independent film which would involve reading as well as not having the standard boobees and explosions.
The movie I was going to watch was Born in a Brothel, which was playing at the Aquarius Theater. Let me tell you that this film touched my heart! It's a documentary about this group of children who live in one of Calcutta's red light districts with their mothers who work the streets. A photograper/filmmaker went to live in the red light district to document the living conditions of the women there. When she saw all the children and how curious they were about her equipment she decided to give them all cameras and teach them about photography. They went to "classes" in which she taught them about composition and other photographic concepts. Mostly these children were just having a good time but the photographs they took were amazing. I swear it almost brought a tear to my eye. The thing that really struck me was that despite the wost possible living conditions that these kids were in they almost always had a smile on their face. These kids loved life and were living it to it's fullest within their own limitations. It was also amazing how they easily lost themselves in photography even in conditions where there basic survival needs were hardly being met. There were happy moments in the film but there wasn't a typical hollywood happy ending. This was real life and the ending reflected that. I recommend everyone go to their local art house and watch this film. Don't wait to see if it becomes popular and starts showing at the major theaters like other films (i.e. Sideways). Go see this now and support the theaters that support quality film making!
After leaving the theater I reached in my pocket and realized I didn't have my car keys. I thought maybe I had dropped them or they fell out of my coat pocket. I got a call from my hair stylist in the middle of the film so I had to get up and go to the lobby. When I came back I sat in the back rather than walk all the way to the front of the theater. I figured I must have dropped it somewhere along the way. So I went back in and looked around. Eventually they got a flashlight and helped me look for my keys but we didn't find them. I finally gave up and walked out to my car and what did I see? My keys sitting right there in the center console. I am such a retard! I've never done that.
Luckily I have roadside service through my insurance so I called them. They said it would take over an hour before I would have someone out there to unlock my car. I had a hair cut appointment in half an hour so I called my friend and asked him if he could go to my house and get my spare key from my room. When he got there he couldn't find my spare key anywhere. I told him exactly where it was too! So I had to settle for the roadside assistance instead. The guy showed up after about 45 minutes and had my car open in less than 2 minutes. Cars are so easy to break into! Well, if you have the right tools.
I missed my hair cut appointment but my guy was cool and he said I could come in at 5:45, right before the shop closed. So I went in and got just a trim on the sides and back. Now I look sexay again. I was looking hurt up to then. My hair was getting really bushy. I would have gotten a haircut on Saturday if I would have come back early but that's cool.
After the haircut it was time for dinner with Mokee and the family since she is leaving back to New York today. The food was good even though her mom overcooked the steak, heehee. Nah, really it was all delicious. I brought a bottle of kick ass 2001 Sterling Merlot. If you get a chance pick up a bottle. It is delicious! After dinner we started watching DVDs. First we saw Boogeyman. The Funk loves watching scary movies because he is really good at scaring the crap out of everyone throughout the movie. The second movie we saw was Blade Trinity. Mokee and I didn't make it through this movie. I think we both passed out on the couch before it was even halfway through. After the movie I let myself out and went home to sleep.
One of these weekends I'm just going to chill. Nothing but chilln' for the whole weekend. No birthday parties, no going out, no drinking, none of that.
