boy is it hot! I'm going to have to sleep in my undies tonight and have the window open.
I totally forgot to bring my camera to the Cherry Blossom Festival yesterday. Luckily I was able to snap some pictures with my cell phone.
I took BART to the city and then walked up to Union Square to catch the MUNI to Japantown. The bus ride was pretty uneventful right up until we got about a two stops away from Japantown. That's when this dude that had been on the bus all the way from Union Square freaked out. He started shouting that 7-11 ripped him off. He was telling everyone, and no one in particular, that the 7-11 on Divisadero gave him the wrong change and ripped him off for 10 cents. We got to Japantown and I got off the bus with him still yelling about his 10 cents.
So I went straight to the food stands and did a quick walk around to see what I would be eating that day. They had Teriyaki Burgers, Takoyaki, Spam Musubi, BBQ Beef, BBQ Chicken, and this thing that looked like an ice cream sandwich but it wasn't ice cream at all. i think it was some kind of pork bun. And of course they had a beer/sake stand run by these old ladies.
I went straight for the beer/sake stand and got myself an Asahi Super Dry. The ladies working the stand didn't ask o see my ID. In fact, they didn't ask for anyone's ID. Woohoo! Well, not exactly Woohoo! I mean I am over 21 so I can buy beer and sake legally.
From there I went to the Tacoyaki stand and bought nine pieces of Tacoyaki. I took my food and beer and sat down in front of this stage that they had set up on a corner. As I was eating my little octopus balls and drinking my beer the MC came out and introduced a band. They were this japanese band that did covers of old funk and r&b songs. They played a lot of good jams. The food stands were right behind where I was sitting so I kept going back to get more tacoyaki. I also got some chicken on a stick and spam musubi. Of course I had to wash it down with beer, lots of beer.
I wasn't the only one drinking. Everyone was getting trashed. One japanese dude got up on the dance area that they had cleared out in front of the stage. While everyone else was dancing he was doing these weird martial arts type poses. I was waiting for him to kick someone in the head or something. They played a great set.
When they were done I got up and had a teriyaki burger and another beer. Then I walked around the festival area. I took a stroll through the Japantown shopping center. I was going go buy some Japanese instruction books but the bookstore was way too crowded. I watched this performance in a courtyard. I didn't understand anything that was being said or what was going on but it seemed interesting.
The festival was over at 6pm so I got back on a bus and headed towards Union Square. When I got there I walked around for a bit and then decided to go to the Cheesecake Factory. I picked up a slice of white chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake and took it to Union Square to eat. After eating my cheesecake I took BART back home and did some laundry.
Today I drove to Turlock to have lunch with my parents and my aunt who was visiting from San Diego. Lunch didn't happen but I did get to visit with my aunt and we caught up on everything that we have done since the last time we saw each other. I might drive down to San Diego for my week of vacation in May.
